Dear friendz, watched Aanandhapurathu veedu in Mappilai Vinayagar Multiplex, Madurai. It has got good AC and fine DTS sound effect. Ticket cost is Rs.60 for first class (a week after release). Very less crowd for A.V. & many choosed to watch 'Kalavani' in Manicka Vinayagar theatre, earlier which I have reviewed it as a good entertainer. Sari ippa detailed review'ku poren.
FIRST HALF - Indha movieoda trailer parkumpothu, I got very impressed for two things. 1. For the thrills it had 2. For 'S' Pictures Dir Shankar, Ithuvarai tharamaana padangalai koduthatharkaaga. Padathoda one line story ithuthaan. "Anandhapurathil, Nandhaa thanathu petrorin poorveega veetirku selgiraar, angu nadakum amaanusyamaana visayanagalin pinnani enna..?, enbathuthaan kathai." Let us get in to complete script.
Nandhaa is an optimistic guy, who doesn't believe in spirits. Due to lot of tension in job, he comes for a visit to his old home in aanadhapuram, where his father and mother lived years back. Nadhavoda, Mom & Dad oru car accident'la agaala maranam adayuraanga. That car is layed as an old property inside their ancient home in anandhapuram. A 3 year old baby 'aaryan' witness, certain magical happenings infront of his eyes, but cant explain that to his dad and mom as he was born dumb. Andha baby'a aavihal, oonjalil aatuthu, Bedla bed sheetai olungaaha virikirathu, Easy chair vaithu vilayaatu kaanbikirathu, Piano vaasikuthu, Stovela milk kaaichuthu etc... Aanaal ithu nandhaa, saya singh iruvarukum theriyaamal nadakirathu. So, we come to a conclusion it is not a dark horror flick right from the beginning of the movie. Oru naal nandhaavai thedi adiyatkal silar varuguraarhal, saya singhidam avarhalai patri kooraamal maraikiraar nandhaa.
Oru katathil, adiyaatkal romba tension aagi nandhaavai thara kuraivaaga pesi House arrest pannuhiraargal. Veetai vittu yaarum veliya poga koodathu endru 2 adiyaatkalai gate munnaal nippatugiraarhal. Velaikara lady mattum ulle vara poga anumathi kudukiraargal. Appoluthu saya singhidam nandhaa unmayai solluhiraar. He confess that, all these problems arised because of loss in business, which had an investment of 2 crores and he has got 40 lacs as debt from a money lenderer, who asks to payback 50 Lacs now, by sending these baddies.
At this time his old friend and business partner comes in support for nandhaa. He also stays in the house. At one stage saya singh sees all the mystical happenings infront of her eyes and she tries to prove these are activities of nandha's dead parent's. Nandhaa does'nt believe it. He says that his parents didn't show much love and affection to him when he was alive and why do they want to show it now after death..? He beats sayasingh at one stage and at that time his dead father's walking stick comes spiritually flying from the upstairs and beats him heavily. Then Nandhaa too realizes the presence of his parents in the form of good spirits in the house.
SECOND HALF - As the last date for settlement to the villains was nearing, nandha sends his friend to chennai to get the amount by any means. He goes and come with no money. By this time his friend calls his wife in chennai and ask her to keep a huge amount of money safely. So, the audience is clear that the villain is nandhaa's friend himself. Ithu elaathayum andha kutti payan paarkiraan, aanaal avanuku pechu varathe. Athanaal Parents'oda spirits athiradi actionil irunguhirathu. In the meantime nandhaa calls his school friend in anandhapuram, who was a real estate broker, to bring some customers and sell the old house for a best rate, so as to settle the debt amount and escape to chennai.
Andha broker silarai kooti varugiraar. Andha aavigaluku veetai virka istam illai, athanaal veedu paarka varubavargalai ellaam 'jee-boom-baa' saagasangalai seithu viratti vidugirathu. Udane nandhaa, aavi pidikum aasaami oruvarai alaithu varugiraar. Avar aavigaloda pesi, kastapattu avatrai oru koojakul pottu adaithu vidugiraar. Aanaal avatrai veliyil sendru thirandhu vidugiraar. Marupadiyum aavihal veetirkule puhundhu vidugirathu. Poojai seytha idathil eeramaana foot steps paarthu saaya singh, aavigal marupadiyum vandhu vitathai kandu pidikiraar. Ithai nandhaavidam solgiraar. Ippa Enna seyvathu endru puriyaamal irukum nadhaavirku, parents aavigale help panuthu.
Oru naal, Chennayil ulla friendoda wife'rku husband'in mobile use panni aavigal SMS anupugirathu. Athil, panathai udane eduthu kondu, anandhapuram varumaaru solgirathu. She comes with 2 crores believing that it was an urgent message from her husband. But, the bad friend manages nandhaa by saying the money suitcase was just a personal luggage. Nandhaa also believes it. He controls his wife not to say any truth about his betrayal to nandhaa as a business partner. At one level the spirits, watching all these shameful activities of his bad friend, starts their war invisibly on him. They make him fall from oonjal, throwing the chair & walking stick on him etc .etc.
At one level the bad friend gives idea to nandhaa to leave the evil haunted home @ midnight, while the baddies are little asleep. As per plan they all try to run away with that suitcase, but those villains catches them. Again they go inside home. Now the Spirits Closes all the doors and locks each baddy in a seperate room. It also beats the bad friend and opens suitcase in air and drops all money in the hall floor. Nandhaa & sayasingh watches it all and comes to a conclusion that his friend is a traitor.
Now the bad friend keeps knife over baby's neck and tells to pack all the amount in the same suitcase and he wants to escape with it or he will kill the child. While they pack, an old pen of his father opens the cap automatically & threatens the bad guy with sharp nib pointed towards his eyes. So, he frightens and drops the child down. At this point the baddies were also unlocked from the doors and they get their 50 Lacs, gives back all the remaining money to nandhaa itself. Seeing the old pen of the father the lenderer boss comments, "This is a pen of mahathma gandhi's time, very precious & if he had seen this before he wouldn't have tortured this much, could have carried away only the pen, So, preserve it as safe as a pure diamond" & they all leave the house. Nandhaa anguishly scolds the betaryed partner cum friend, asks him to get away from their home, leaving them in peace. The spirits of the parents too leave with satisfaction saying bye to the cute speechless baby.
MERITS : BG Music is awesome. A new kind 'O' magical treat for all ages, with most scenes made for children's taste. Master 'Aryan' as a dumb baby makes all of us to feel that he is one among the playful childrens in our home or neighbors.
DE-MERITS : It gives us a feeling that we are watching a big budget serial in the big screen. Movie wont make u bore, but give's u prior guess of what will happen next. Under Shankars production, I expected a big budget thrilling horror as per the trailer, but it was totally in-consequent.

Hi friendz, watched madharaasapatinam in Annamalai theatre, Madurai. Evening Show was housefull in Big Cinema's jazz which was my First Choice. So, I drove fast in my Apache to Annamalai Theatre, which didn't live upto my expectation. Coz, screen was very dull, poor projection and theatre maintenance was so bad. The only acceptable thing was gud DTS and atleast a mild AC. Okay, Lemme start the review.
First half - Madharaasapatnam - Movie title Itself suggests that it is an Old story about Chennai, when it was called so under british rule. Padam 1940'sla nadandha oru Love story'ya theme'aa vechu aarambikuthu.Titanic padam madiriye ithulayum oru old lady (80 years of age) flash back solranga. She was admitted in a Hospital in London, for Blood Clot in Brain and has only 50-50 chance of survival, while doctors suggest for immediate operation. But, she explains them that, she has an unfinished task in India and has to go back immediately before undergoing operation. Avangaloda Grand-daughter'um athuku sammathikraanga. 2 perum India kelamburaanga.
Paati, indiala chennaiku varaanga. Apdiye chennai central'la irundhu flashback roll aahuthu. Old chennai'la (i.e. madharaas) british govt. rule nadakuthu. Andha governoroda ponnuthaan indha paati. Britain actress, Amy jackson has acted as a heroine. When she comes for a ride thro rural chennai in a Tram car, she meets Aarya in a stunning Intro sequence, who is young and energetic belonging to the washerman community. These washerman's job is to wash and iron the british peoples clothes.
Aaryavum avanga nanbargalum britishku bayapadaama romba brave'aa irukaanga. Itha paartha heroine aarya kooda palaguraanga. Avaruku english solli thraaanga, Aaryavum bathiluku tamil teach panraar. Oru naal andha heroineku thideernu british general'oda engagement nadakuthu. But, heroine doesnt like to be married to that guy, as he is very cruel and behaves in-human against madharas people.
One day the governor orders to capture all washerman fields for constructing a Golf yard for the british people to play-in. But, all washerman people stand against their activities. So, Amy jackson plays a trick and asks the general to fight against aarya one to one and if he wins, they need not give their land. Fight begins, and as expected aarya wins, as he is already a renowned wrestler. So, avanga land'a thirupi kuduthudraanga. Aarya says thanks to amy, and here their Friendship slowly transforms into a Beautiful Love. Interval...!
Second half - In 1947 Aug 15, india gets freedom. So, british india vitu velila poranga. Amy aryava love panrathu governorku(Amy's father) therinju, elaathayum pack panitu england'ku poga kelamburaanga. Aryava arrest panraanga. Avara suttu kolrathukaga katti vekiraanga. Oda vittu suda poraapa, aarya friends kaapathi kootitu poranga. Aryavum kaalula gundu kaayathoda, amy'ya theduraar. Appa arya andha ponna, railway stationla paakraar. Indiavuku annaiku mid-night 12 'O' clock, freedom kidaikuthu. Vaanathula vedi vedika, varna jaalam therika, aarya heroine'a kootitu oduraar (sema emotional scene!). Aryava kolanumnu General nightoda nightaa kelamburaar. Aanaa, ivanga rendu perum central railway stationla iruka oru Big Wall clock roomla, yaarukum theriyaama olinjukraanga.
Andha place'um epdiyo andha generaluku therinju vandhudraar, appa arya fight panraar, andha general amndaila, heroine suthiyal vechu oru podu podraanga, apparam aarya villan'a maadilarndhu, velila thooki veesi kolraar. Police notice his body falling down. Again the Lover's escape from there, with one of the friends help, starts running, runing and finally they get into the beautiful koovam river (Called as Thames of Chennai @ that time. humm! "Ippa pera kettale chumaa naaruthula!"). They get a boat and pedal towards some silent place under a bridge.(which is currently called as 'napier bridge' near marina).
Angayum police chase pani vandhuruthu. After seeing them round-up, Heroine asks arya to leave her and swim somewhere., so that he will be alive atleast. But, aarya catches the boat's edge from being underneath the river, refuses to go. Then Amy beats his hands severely with pedaling stick several times and he drops down into the water.(Hurray! wat an emotional Love scene!). Flash back ends here!
All these takes place showing the current polluted places in chennai with comparision to the beautiful Madharaas in flash back, with the view from the mind of granny (like Titanic story telling.). Some scenes will remain Aamir khan's Lagaan & ofcourse Titanic. But there are lots and lots of new things that Indian cinema haven't seen yet!
Why she came to Chennai in 2010..? whether she has met Aarya...? Whether aarya survived after that tragedy..? what's behind her search...? All these things will be answered in climax, which is not fare for me to reveal here!
Songs movie'oda onnaa kalandhu Audience'a mesmerism panuthu. Esp pookal pookum, vaamaa dhorayamma and meghame oh meghame are classy! Neraya scenes'la whistles & Claps dhool parakuthu. Some scenes'la whole theatre'um emotional'aa aaguthu... Pindrop silence was observed! Art director Nirav shah has done such a tribute to the film, with his astonishing set's which will never appeal to us as, duplication. Hence 100% realism brings him success! Cinematographer V.Selvakumar, has well captured the period 1947 with differnet color tone and treatment compared to current chennai's Look. BG music was mind-blowing by G.V.Prakash. Comedy by Late VMC Hanifa, as P.A. for Heroine Amy provokes laughter (We miss a good comedian, may peace be upon him!). All other main characters have done a fabulous job. Overall round of applause goes to the Director Vijay, who will be under big directors list hereafter, and expectations raise on him. Kudos to the producer's, as it involves a big budget and in the future they should come-up with such kind 'O' movies to take our tamil cinemas to newer heights of universe!
There are certain places where the movies pace is slow and some scenes where not to the grip of storyline. But, these minor flaws do not stop us from enjoying a lovely emotional ride to the past chennai (Madharaas)!!!
SUPERAPPU : Story, Direction, Artwork, Graphics, cinematography, Acting, BG Music, Songs all are superb. Takes us back to the 1947 - struggle for freedom period with a beautiful love portrayed along with it.
SOTHAPALAPPU : Screenplay could have been little gripper. In 1947 also actors (including aarya) speak's current tamil which is a little letdown. More emotional scenes could have been included as the period is "fight for independence against the cruel british rule"!
FINISHING TOUCH : Indha padam "KOLLYWOOD'S TITANIC" apdinu peru vaangunaa kooda aacharyam illai! Becoz, emotions of love and fight for freedom will strike right through our heart! Despite of the theatre's weakness, I thoroughly enjoyed every frame!

Ethana naaluthaan namma madurai manna suthi suthi padam eduthu kaamipaanganu salichukitten. Ippadi yosichitirukappa surprise'aa vandha padamthaan Kalavaani. Chozharhalin Sorka boomiyaana thanjai mannil thadam pathitha padam indha "kalavaani". Periya nadigarhal ilaamal, periya thalaihal thalayeedu ilaamal romba simple'aah satham ilaamal release aahi almost 2 weeks aaga pothu. Nethu indha padam paarthen. ippo ungalukaaga suda suda en Thirai Paarvai.
Kalavaani padathoda one line story ithuthaan... "Appaa dubaila sambaathichu anupra panatha, oothaarithanamaa selavu panra kalavaani payyan... avanukum Love feelings varudhu... vandhaa enna aagum...?"
Pasanga padathula paartha vimalaa ithu...? Niraya nadippu nunukangalai katru therndhirukaar. Avaroda voice modulation, Eye & body language's are top class... apdiye thimir piditha oru gramathu ilainganaaha, "Arukki" characterla asathi irukaar. Aduthu heroine Oviyaa... wow wow wow, No one can act like her in a debut film.. that too as a +1 student. Her walks, talks, looks... all Rockzzz and shakes us... Even we too will fall in love for her acting skills. Congratzz oviyaa u got 2 send all senior actress to their homes shortly!

Vimal as Arukki is a +2 tutorial student... Niraya attempt paniyum +2 pass pana mudiyaama, vellai vesti sattaiya pottukitu vettiyaa oora suthuraar. Avaruku 4 vetti payaluha friendz. oorukulla chinna chinna katta panjayathu panranga. Arukkiyoda appaa, Ilavarasu dubaila velai paakuraar. Veetuku maasam maasam dhuttu anupraar. Atha vechu veedu katta aasai paduraar. Aana, amma saranya'va miratti paathi panatha pudungi namma paya thanni adikiraar, thaharaaru panraar, thaaru maara selavu panraar. Avaruku oru thangachi irukunu kooda poruppu ilaama thiriyiraar. Avanga vootla elaa porulayum udaichu vechirukaar, aana TV mattum apdiye irukku, yennaa, ammavum-thangachiyum serial paakanumaam... athunaala atha udaikira mathiri baavlaa paniye pala roobaai notukala paspam aakuraar. Appaa kasta pattu katuna veedu paathiyila nikkuthu.
Arukki pala ponnugaluku root viduraar. Aanaa athelaam oru jollykum time passkum. Oru naal yethechaiyaa +1 padikira namma heroine oviya'va (as "Magesh"-wari) paakuraar. Paathathum kaadhal vandhu pathikuthu. Thurathi thurathi Love panraar, "Enna kalayaanam panikiriyaa'nu?" kettu miraturaar. Oru katathula ivaroda settaihalil mayangi poyi oviyaavum ivara Love panraanga. Ithula School pulaingaluku Love vara mathiri kamichirukathu konjam nerudalaa irukku. But, graamathu pulainga innocent'aa irukumla... athunaala, OK.
Ippadi smoothaa poitirukka Love'la kurukka yaaravathu varanumla... Ithula oviya'voda annan'aa puthumugam thirumurugan nadichirukaar. Avarukum, Arukikum Mun-virodham irukku (Aanaa athu enaanu kadaisi varaikum kaatalaye director sir...?) Thirumurugan oru adaavadiyaana aalu. Almost oru kobakaara rowdy'nu vechukalaam. rendu perum thani thani ooru. Vimal irukathu arasanur, oviyaa irukathu Raanimangalam. Yerkanave saami selai visayathula rendu oorukaarangalum eliyum-poonaiyumaa murachikittu irukaanga.
Dubaila irundhu appaa ilavarasu varaar, ivaroda settaihala kannuku nera paakuraar, veedu paathiyila nikaratha paarthu athirndhu poraar, ammaa saranyava, "Pillayaadi valathirukanu..?", kobapattu adikuraar... apparam neraya sambavam nadakuthu, samaathaanam aaguraar. Arukiyoda Love matterum appavuku theriya varuthu. Apparam Kasta pattu farm elathayum olungu paduthi, vettiya iruka arukki payalayum velai vaangi oru valiyaa veetai katti mudikiraar. "Puthumanai Pugu vilaa" visesam vekiraar.
Ithula ivanga love matter ooruku therinju athu oru prechnaiyaa vedikuthu. Thirumurugan arukkiya kolaama vida maatenu sabatham edukuraar. Kadaisiyila enna aachunu Climax paathaa theriyum ....!!!
Indha padathoda mukiyamaana plus points... Ellaaroda yetharthamaana nadippum, manathai thirudum isaiyum, thanjai mannin alagumthaan!
Sila idangalil thirumba thirumba vayal paathayil heroine cycle otti varuvathum, Hero paarthu pesuvathum salippu thatuthu.
Padathula full Songs'oda minutes kootinaa... 15 to 16 mints thaan varum. Ellaame bit songs. Damma dumma song sema hit aagum... ooradangum saamathula song nenjai urukum... dubaiku poga poren song is not there in film..? (But gud to hear). All other songs are Bit, and adds to the taste of location & situation~!
Munaadiye sonna madiri Oviya alias Magesh Steals the Show with her Beautiful Eyes & Performance - Gonna have a top place in kollywood soon!
Ithuvaraikum Village Subject base pani vandha padangal ellame Bloody Violence & Terror Climaxoda irundhathu. But, indha padam romba cool and peppy'aah vandhirukku! Padam paathutu veliya varappa 32 pallum theriyira mathiri romba santhosamaa sirikalaam...!
SUSPENSE: அரிக்கியும் LC112ம் கூட்டு - அப்டினா என்னான்னு படம் பார்த்து தெரிஞ்சுக்கங்கோ!!!
SUPERAPPU : Thanjai mannin Alagai Appatamaaha kaati irupathu, Hero - Heroine's acting with beautiful Love Scenes & expressions, Gud film in Low Budget (only 3 Crores investment).
SOTHAPALAPPU : Some Scenes were not so tight to the situation. +1'la Deep Love...?(will lead to bad example, wen school students watch it) Atleast 2 fights vechirukalaam... Oru fight romba buildup kuduthu sappunu mudinjathu varutham. Thiraikathaila innum alutham kuduthirundhaa, padam mega hit aagi irukum!
FINISHING TOUCH : A cool movie @ the end of hot summer! Enjoy ur weekend! Definitely worth watching rather few flaws...!
