GLIMPSE - Nandhalala is just the third movie for director Myskin after his grand endeavors Sithiram pesuthadi and Anjathey. Here Myskin himself has moulded as an actor cum director. Additional information is he had lost 30 kg's for the role (97 to 67). Let us see why this movie got much appreciation from the critics.

FIRST HALF -  The story unfolds from Aswath ram a school boy, standing infront of the school gate and looking at the ground for few minutes. He lives with his grand mother and he decides to go in search for his mother to annai vayal (A village), to give her a hug and kiss. Myskin has played the role of a mentally challenged man. From the beginning ilayaraja starts stealing the show, WoW what a backgroung re-recording after a much longer period (May be the last one was Pithamagan & Sethu). Myskin also suddenly gets a thought to see his mother, not really to hug her but to slap for sending him to the asylum. So, he escapes from the place beating the security guard and wearing his XL sized uniform, that didnt fit the slim myskin. So, he holds the pant in one hand and starts his journey in search for the mother to thaai vaasal near Gobi chetti palayam. Both the characters meet while the small boys things were being stealed by a stranger. Myskin fights the stranger and saves the boy. they both accompany each other to find their respective mothers.

SECOND HALFRoad Journey starts and they both go by walk. On the way they get lift in a car, 2 big persons riding a bullet helps them, A school girl takes them by tractor, A prostitute girl was being saved from the strangers by myskin, they meet a physically challenged person who shows way, A lorry driver who first gets anger on myskin and beats him, later knowing he is mentally challenged forms friendship, A tender Coconut seller and his encounters with myskin, A gang of  Road side-romeo's who go on a car-ride teases a honeymoon couple who gave lift for myskin and the boy. So, myskin goes straight to them and gets the beer bottle, while they think he is gonna drink, he unexpectedly breaks it on the teasers head, not 1 or 2 times. 4 times in 2 occasions. These small actions bring laughter from the audience. Finally Myskin finds the boys home in annai vayal and meets his mom while the boy was away, But that boys mom is living with another family and tells not to disturb falling in the legs of myskin (Here There are no dialogues audible but ilayaraja's music speaks). So, myskin slaps her and takes the boy away from that place saying his mother is not there. Then they reach thaai vaasal, there myskin's mother was found chained in the back of their home like a street dog, who was under the care of his elder brother. On seeing this myskin was beaten up from the toe to head and he was totally shocked, as he had really came there to slap her. This shock cures him of his mental illness. Here Even the stone hearted person will shed tears, as ilayaraja sings in background "Thaalaatu ketka".
CLIMAX - Finally myskin takes his mother with him and the prostitute girl was said to play the role of mother for the boy, telling him his real mother was dead. Myskin starts his new life as a balloon seller with a happiest soul. Movie ends.

MERITS : Ilayaraja's music is one of the strong character's for the movie, it speaks at places there is no dialogue is necessary. Myskins acting and his voice is a great plus. Master aswath ram will get many chances in the upcomng movies. Many characters are so natural.

DE-MERITS : Though myskin says he had got the story from his real brother who is mentally ill, Storyline was an utter steal from "kikujiro" a famous japanese movie. Screenplay is very very slow, Camera angles are typical myskin style focusing sky and legs, even at the time to show facial expressions. Album had 6 songs with "yelelo" said to be a highlight, but in the movie 2 songs were missing and remaining are in bits. The big bikers and some characters acts like in drama.

MY PUNCH : "Nandhalala" is a gripping film but could have tightened the screenplay and sharpen some characters to add more flavor.
